5 Reasons You Should Always Pack Light

5 Reasons You Should Always Pack Light

For years, we all have been planning for this killer photo of us posing in front of the Eiffel Tower, taking that cliché picture of someone pushing Pisa Tower, or just a nice photo with a stunning background, but who said that such a picture-perfect would require us to travel with our entire wardrobe, our complete set of accessories, and the most tiring pair of looking good shoes or high-heels, one can always look good while packing light, not only but also TO..

HAVE SPACE FOR SHOPPING

Whether a shopaholic or not, there is no way you’ll never come back from a trip without buying at least some souvenirs, which could be as small as a fridge magnet or a snowball or as big as a warrior shield or a wooden carved giraffe, not to mention that not everything could be carried on, hence you need luggage space.

AVOID PAYING FOR EXTRA WEIGHT

Here comes the nightmare! Skip all the hassle of worrying too much about your luggage weight, begging the counter-person to let you travel peacefully without paying extra, or having to load, and unload your suitcases to fit into the baggage allowance while hearing your flight final call. Believe me, the last thing you want is to end your trip with so much drama!

KEEP AWAY FROM BACK, SHOULDER, & NECK PAIN

Because not everywhere you would find a porter, or a random gentleman who’s voluntarily ready to help, and not all accommodation types offer the services of a bellboy like how it is in Egypt, needless to say, that there might not be an elevator, or the staircase leading to your room might be too narrow to get around with a large suitcase, or having a small room without enough space to store your luggage. The worst thing ever is to start your trip with back, shoulders and neck pain, and having to live with it throughout your vacation.

EASILY PACK & UNPACK

Which especially applies when hopping from one city or one country to another; this is when packing and unpacking occur many times, and so it becomes a pain to carry heavy luggage around, not to mention how painful it would be to check it in whether on a flight, a bus, or a train.

USE PUBLIC TRANSPORTS

In addition to being cheaper, one of the pleasantest things to do while travelling is trying every possible mean of transportation, so how would you be able to go around and do it while carrying heavy luggage?!! In some cases, it’s not even possible to check them in.

Can you possibly imagine a trip to India without riding a rickshaw at its land-birth? Or missing out on a Matatu or Dala Dala ride -stand for microbus in Kenya & Tanzania- in Kenya or Tanzania? Going on a Eurotrip without riding any trains?, or even better a STOL -short takeoff and landing- flight in Africa?

So are you a heavy or a light packer? Do you have more reasons to pack light? And if you are a light packer can you help our fellow heavy packers to become light ones?!! Please share your recommendations in the comments below..

Your next trip starts right here!

  1. I’m always a light packer, despite how long I’m traveling abroad. Need few tips? HYG:
    1) choose the right size of roller bag; maximum allowed to carry on. The other bag will be a backpack with comparable size…
    2) u really don’t need to wear different clothes everyday; pack one pair of jeans or shorts with 3 tees & u r set for a week!
    3) underwears r the trick; u might not find a facility to wash & dry. Take enough of those
Sleeping clothes r dependant on where r u staying; hostels require a plain light short & a sleevless tee. A private hotel room doesn’t require anything practically
    4) all u need is a pair of comfy walking shoes ; u don’t neef to pack’em as u r already wearing’em!!
    5) basic personal care kit is as small as a 10cm X 15cm purse… U don’t need bigger ones
    6) remember that u r travelling to explore & have fun, not to transfer the life u r living @ home to find it abroad

    1. Thanks Mohammad for the valuable tips…
      I love no. 6, it’s a travel quote to live by 😉
I always roll my stuff, one thing to recommend though to people like me who like to travel in bulky boots -hiking boots- it’s always preferable to have an extra pair of easy to wear shoes like a pair of toms, espadrilles, or ballerinas for ladies. They come very handy!
Have you known that they have invented quick-dry underwear so you’d be able to clean them and have them dry in no time?

      1. Glad that you found my notes up there useful Passainte,
I regret to tell you that I not fond of bulky hiking shoes, my faves are simple walking sneakers, one pair is enough, wearing that from home…

The quick drying undies is a cool idea too 🙂

One last, & very important reason that I missed mentioning is that if u were flying abroad with many connection flights, light carry on luggage are very hard to lose, unlike the bulky bags going into plane cargo!!

Wishing u pleasant burdenless travels 😉

        1. Well if i travel without my hiking boots i feel totally incomplete, hehe…just like if i do not travel with one of my backpacks that i have in different sizes 😀 😀 :D, and for different uses, you know the more you travel the more you get to know what your essentials are and what size of luggage do you need -that’s why i have several backpack sizes.

The challenge of most challenges i ever had was traveling to two different countries where in one it was still winter, and the other one was summer! and i had to fit everything into a 23KG bag, and i managed to make them only 20KG 😀

I feel so triumphant when i am capable of beating the allowed weight, or am capable of packing super light, not just light 😀
