Hannover Royal Garden of Herrenhausen
The city owes this jewel of baroque garden architecture to an extraordinary woman; the Electress Sophia of the Palatinate. Inspired by the Sun King, Louis XIV, she had the Great Garden laid out in the French style at the end of the 17th century, and it became her life’s work. Today, about 400,000 visitors a year enjoy the unique atmosphere of one of the best-preserved baroque gardens in Europe.
