Praha – A Bohemian Rhapsody

Praha – A Bohemian Rhapsody

Prague is such a vibrant, beautiful city, it’s hard to imagine, how gloomy and sad it was under the hard-line communists, who ran it until the Velvet Revolution in 1989. Nowadays as it tries to cope with the fast-growing European pace, it manages to be quite modern.

I’ve wanted to sample Prague’s bohemian heritage, gothic architecture and unique culture for a long time. I had a chance to go from Munich for a weekend; I can say it is two different worlds. Once you are in Prague you feel it is a fairy tale or you fell in an illustration book with colorful castles, old bridges and cobble-stoned alleys. It is a beautiful city, in which you can, on a relatively small area, find many different styles and cultural influences. It is one of the few cities in Europe, which can boast about so many architectural monuments across twelve centuries. In spite of seeing so many diverse styles in the city, you feel that everything works together and Prague is very harmoniously built. It adds to it some kind of mysterious glamour, which is unbelievably charming to all who witness it.

Old Town Square

For the perfect day in Prague.

Relax and enjoy the Old Town Square, with its wonderful combination of ornate baroque, gothic and Romanesque buildings. Cross the 14th century Charles Bridge, alive both day and night with buskers, puppeteers and entertainers. Visit Prague Castle, very impressive both for its size and age. End your day with some people watching at downtown. Alternatively, enjoy the night at the popular clubs in the area flocking with hundreds of tourists. Don’t forget to try their traditional street dessert, trdelník. Overall one of the most addictive and delicious desserts I have ever tasted.

My final thoughts on this enchanting city.

The focus of my trip was photography, but this is much more than a photographic tour. The trip’s leisurely pace will provide ample opportunity for you to soak up the history and culture. Prague is a must visit, whether you are an art fanatic or a party animal, definitely Prague has something to offer to all its visitors and a true symphony for all senses.
