Hong Kong – The Fragrant Harbour

Hong Kong – The Fragrant Harbour

Hong Kong is a city that offers many delights during the day and when the night falls, the city shines as a symbol of modernity. This was my first impression about Hong Kong, one of the most dynamic places on earth that offer its visitors a multitude of fantastic entertainment, dining and shopping options.

Hong Kong City

From my seat on the plane, I got goosebumps looking down at the city, it is one the greatest views ever. I felt the pilot is landing between the glowing colorful skyscrapers and the greenery landscape. Hong Kong city never sleeps and whether you visit the highlights like the stunning Ocean Park, the fantastic views off of  Victoria Peak or at the beautiful Repulse Bay, this city is certain to exceed your expectations and will entertain you.

In this city, everyone seems to be in a rush to go to work or catch the subway. And the city also offers a superb public transportation system, cheap taxis and bilingual signage making exploration easy. Hong Kong is so much influenced by the British system, even the streets are called after members of the Royal British family. Everything there is systematic and in order, leaving a great impact on you. But still, it balances a modernized way of life with traditional Chinese practices.

Repulse Bay

Hong Kong is a recognized as a global center of trade, and calls itself an “entertainment hub”. There are 7,650 skyscrapers in the city, which puts it at the top of world rankings. I even heard that 36 of the world’s 100 tallest residential buildings are located here.

Hong Kong Skyline

Four main areas make up this city.  These are Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, New Territories and Outlying Islands. Hong Kong Island and Kowloon are divided by the stunning Victoria Harbour and they are completely different. HK island is more of a modern business district, while in Kowloon you will feel the cultural beats more. You will love the spirit, the crowds, the markets and the gaudy billboards and signs all over the city. The only thing I disliked was the food and this is maybe because I come from a completely different culture, but still, Hong Kong offers a lot of varied international gastronomy.

Dim Sum, traditional Chinese cuisine

I cherished Hong Kong and I am willing to visit this great city again combined with Mainland China in the future, so to know more about a glitzy city with great long history.
