Bangkok The Land of Smiles

Bangkok The Land of Smiles

Many say that Bangkok never sleeps and it’s true. The Thai capital is both fascinating and overwhelming, with its mix of Asian recklessness and western life. It is one of the most beautifully complex cities in the world that has long attracted tourists from around the globe for its rich cuisine, access to temples, and proximity to secluded beaches in neighbouring towns and islands. Bangkok is also known for its floating markets, hot humid climate and for being a friendly nation!

Bangkok is one place where luxury and comfort can be easily acquired on almost any budget. Steeped in tradition and history, it possesses an amazing combination of temples and palaces, enticing sights, smells and sounds, glitz and glamour, wonderful hospitality and excitement at every turn.

Wander Bangkok for a day and you still won’t see half of its hidden mysteries. Go to the sporting events, I can’t recommend a night of Muay Thai boxing enough.

Visitors should head straight to the famous street food stalls as some of Thailand’s spiciest, tangiest tom yum soups can be eaten from roadside stalls. Thai cuisine is renowned worldwide and the bustling streets filled with the mouth-watering smells of freshly cooked food will definitely tempt your taste buds.

The Grand Palace in the old royal quarters of Bangkok contains the famous Emerald Buddha. Another must-see is the 5.5 ton Golden Reclining Buddha at Wat Pho, the largest solid gold Buddha in the world, and also the most valuable religious object. All close by and within walking distance.

When the night falls

The vibrant capital is a non-stop whirlwind of entertainment and excitement. Sukhumvit is the place to go for hip nightclubs and rooftop bars. And for the random crowd, Khao San Road is the backpacker hot spot that turns into one giant party at night.

Bangkok is popular with swanky rooftop bars and lively nightclubs. Travco Holidays commends, Sky Bar Rooftop at Lebua Hotel, for amazing sundowners overlooking the river, highlighted as one of the best rooftops in the world, being more popular after being featured in Hangover II movie. Another captivating option, CRU, one of the fanciest rooftop bars in Bangkok, located above Centara Grand Hotel.

Getting around

Bangkok is a vast city, but the sky train system can get you from one neighbourhood to another. Walking the neighbourhoods, however, is the only way to truly learn how this city operates. For metered taxi services, look for pink cars. The infamous tuk-tuks are also available everywhere and the ride is part of the folklore, but beware that traffic in Bangkok is chaotic.
